[Opendap-tech] [Q] Use of '@' character in dataset name causes a constraint expression error?

Hi,

Is it illegal to use '@' character in a OPeNDAP dataset name?

I get "Constraint expression parse error" when I extract a dataset via
hdf4 handler like:

  %dap_hdf4_handler -o dods -e
"A8Total%20Aerosol%20Visible%20Optical%20Depth%20%40%201.6%20microns"
<hdf4_file> | getdap -

Constraint expression parsing stopped at @ character and returned the
message saying "No such identifier in dataset: A8Total Aerosol Visible
Optical Path ".

Also, is there an official document that lists all characters that
should not be used in OPeNDAP variable name?
